Anti Bias
ELRU offers support to educators and others involved in post-apartheid transformation so that they are able to influence and promote change in practical ways. The anti-bias work challenges beliefs, attitudes, behaviours and social and institutional practices which are oppressive.
The project includes:
- anti-bias workshops and training courses
- development of anti-bias resource materials, including books, tapes, posters and games
- a reference library containing anti-bias material
- research into anti-bias curriculum issues
Participants develop the ability to implement an anti-bias approach through
- awareness of challenges in working toward transformation
- increasing knowledge about all forms of discrimination
- assessing oppressive policy and practice in the education system and
their own practice environments
- sharing global differences
- affirming differences and similarities
- exploring the practical implications of the above
- acquiring skills for facilitating inclusion, fairness and peace.
